Description

DRC Uganda is currently looking for highly qualified and motivated individuals to join our dynamic team as Agricultural Officers (02).

This role is contingent upon the successful securing of funding for the project.

The overall purpose of the role: 

 

The Agricultural Officer will be responsible for technical implementation of the DRC’s Food Systems and Economic Self-Reliance project across the three mutually reinforced outcomes in the districts of Obongi, Moyo, Yumbe, Koboko, Madi Okollo and Terego. These include ensuring appropriateness and quality of actual work as well as supporting Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) training, particularly to community Farmer Groups and Project Management Committees.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be: 

 

Community Mobilization and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Engagement

  • Mobilization of community and identification of target participants with the support of the Climate and Food security Team Leader to participate in project activities.
  • Support the Agriculture Assistants in the identification and selection of participants targeted to benefit from the program with guidance of the participants selection criteria and ensure proper profiling of participants data base
  • Mobilize and sensitize communities on sustainable and regenerative climate smart agricultural practices.
  • Organize and conduct technical training to participants on enterprise selection and Climate smart agriculture practices.
  • Establish block/cluster gardens with clear production and market plans
  • Support farmer groups in establishing Perma gardens for household food and nutrition security using the Resilience Design Approach.
  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and awareness campaigns to promote climate smart agriculture practices.
  • Identify community needs, concerns, and priorities to inform project design and implementation.
  • Strengthen community ownership of environmental initiatives through participatory approaches and co-design processes.
  • Provide routine technical support to the Agriculture Assistants
  • Provide periodical activity reports to the Climate and Food Security Team Leader.

Environmental Awareness and Capacity Building 

 
  • Develop and deliver educational materials and training sessions on ecosystem restoration, climate-smart agriculture, and sustainable resource use.
  • Promote environmentally friendly practices among communities, such as recycling, composting, and water conservation.
  • Identify and mentor community-based environmental champions to lead localized conservation efforts.
  • Collaborate with schools and local institutions to integrate environmental education into their activities.

Project Implementation Support 

  • Participate in distribution of project inputs, e.g. Cash Transfer, Agro/Small Business materials to the target groups.
  • Assist the Agriculture Officer in planning and executing CSA activities, including Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Integrated pest managemnet and soil and water conservation
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials and resources for community-based activities.
  • Monitor and report on community participation and progress toward project goals.

Stakeholder Collaboration 

  • Represent DRC in coordination meetings organized both at the district and settlement levels with other Key stakeholders including Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), UNHCR and the District Production Department.
  •  Build and maintain relationships with local leaders, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders involved in Agriculture, food security and livelihoods and climate resilient programs to strengthen project implementation.
  • Work collaboratively with CSA partner staff to identify synergies and enhance climate resilience and Food security.
  • Represent DRC in local forums and events related to Agriculture production.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting 

  • Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of project activities ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Collect and report data on project outcomes, community participation, and feedback.
  • Prepare regular updates, success stories, and lessons learned for internal and external sharing.
  • Regularly collect accurate project related information/Data for submission to M&E for reporting.
  • Participate in quarterly OPM and District monitoring project reviews and evaluations

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have at least 3 years of practical field experience in the mobilization of communities and implementation of projects . Moreover, we also expect the following.

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension or related fields.
  • Experience in the mobilization of communities for participatory activities
  • Experience in the implementation of ecosystem restoration, climate adaptation, and natural resource management projects using the labor-intensive approach
  • Experience in managing the workforce and community members
  • Strong analytical, communication and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and undertake practical demonstrations
  • Knowledge of local context including market systems, CSA, Environment and gender inclusion.
  • Competent motorcycle riding skills and a valid riding license.
  • Full professional proficiency in (written & spoken) English.

Desirable 

  • Knowledge of languages spoken in the project locations.
