On behalf of our client – a microfinance SMC Ltd, we seek to recruit the below position.
Job title: Credit Analyst
Reports to: Credit Manager / Head of Credit
Supervises: None
Duty Station: Head Office – Gulu
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Overall job purpose
The Credit Analyst will be responsible for assessing, analyzing, and recommending credit applications, ensuring that lending decisions align with the company’s risk appetite, portfolio quality standards, and regulatory framework. The role requires a balance of strong analytical skills, fieldwork, and client relationship management.
Tasks and Responsibilities
• Conduct thorough financial and non-financial analysis of loan applications.
• Assess borrower capacity, collateral, character, and conditions in line with institutional credit policies.
• Prepare detailed credit appraisal reports with recommendations for approval/rejection.
• Identify, evaluate, and mitigate credit risks at both client and portfolio level.
• Ensure compliance with Tier 4 Microfinance regulatory requirements and Talanta Finance credit policy.
• Monitor loan performance and flag early warning signs of potential default.
• Support loan officers in maintaining a healthy loan book.
• Participate in portfolio reviews and provide insights on credit trends.
• Work closely with recovery teams to minimize portfolio at risk (PAR).
• Conduct due diligence and site visits to verify client information.
• Guide loan officers and clients through the credit application process.
• Provide financial literacy support to clients where necessary.
• Maintain accurate credit files and ensure completeness of loan documentation.
• Generate periodic reports on credit analysis, portfolio performance, and risk trends.
• Present findings and recommendations to the Credit Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
Academic:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience:
• At least 2 years’ experience in credit analysis, risk management, or lending in a microfinance or financial institution.
• Strong financial analysis and risk assessment skills.
• Knowledge of Tier 4 Microfinance Institutions Act, 2016 and related regulatory guidelines.
• Excellent computer skills (MS Excel, Word, and loan management systems).
• High integrity, analytical thinking, and attention to detail. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Skills and Competences:
• Analytical and problem-solving ability.
