Description

True North Consult Ltd is hiring a Grant Accountant to provide financial support to the business, including processing of payments, posting accounting entries for the business and specific grants in the system, preparing financial information for monthly reporting packs and donor reports, preparation of tax returns, and performing reconciliations for all accounts.

Support the preparation of financial proposals for grants and monitor grant expenditure to ensure it adheres to the provisions of the grant agreements.

Support the management of all finance and tax risks of the business and provide required reports. Support all audits and the business on all finance-related queries.

 

Grant Accountant – Support for WEE CR Facility, Digital CR & Women

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and post journal entries to recognize revenue, expenses, assets, and liabilities based on the project and operational expenditure incurred.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of income and expenditure for the different grants, as well as all general ledger accounts, to support the balances reported for the entity.
  • Maintain the project’s fixed asset register and ensure all new assets are capitalized accurately, and all existing assets are in good condition and accurately recorded in the entity’s fixed asset register.
  • Manage the settlement of all vendor invoices and staff claims for the project following receipt of all required approvals, and ensure these are settled against the appropriate donor accounts.
  • Manage both internal and external stakeholders through timely responses to queries.
  • Monitor the performance of the project against approved budgets to curb any budget overspends through timely communication of corrective actions to management to aid in decision-making.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures and Group reporting frameworks to ensure compliance across the business.
  • Prepare and circulate monthly finance reports for the project and the business, with accompanying commentary.
  • Maintain proper records and file all tax returns and payments for compliance with tax laws, and reconcile the entity’s tax ledgers.
  • Support internal and external reviews and audits of the project’s finance function through the provision of requested information.
  • Prepare and submit donor reports detailing income and expenditure analysis as required under the donor agreements, and maintain supporting documentation for the incurred expenditure.
  • Provide finance and tax advisory support to the entity and complete ad hoc requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Attend to any other financial matters from time to time as directed by the bank in relation to supporting projects.

Person Specification

Education, Training, Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Business Administration with specialization in Finance and Accounting. A Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and Accounting will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience within a Not-for-Profit environment.
  • At least 1–2 years’ experience with an understanding of financial and tax reporting.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting principles, including classifying, measuring, and recording transactions using the entity’s financial systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of costing, budgeting, and finance concepts, including the application of related processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of advanced financial analysis and how financial ratios, trends, business, and value drivers interact.
  • Ability to design control measures and checks in accounting and financial processing activities to mitigate risks of errors, omissions, and fraud.
  • Ability to interpret financial reports, measure performance, and execute key ratio analyses.
  • Understanding of essential elements of risk, including assets, threats, vulnerabilities, safeguards, consequences, and the likelihood of threats materializing.
  • General awareness of risk management practices in a financial services organization.
  • Ability to engage with donor finance teams, programme teams, and other finance team members to fulfil reporting and reconciliation requirements while providing financial control and support to the business.
